Saturday
Hey guys. No news regarding reopening but it looks like gyms are phase 4, and we are currently in Phase 2. Let’s hope things continue to progress. I have been in contact with other affiliate owners and we are all in the same position.
Also, with regard to the sensitive situation with the CrossFit hierarchy, I received this email from Dave Castro, the new CEO today. . .
Dear Affiliate Owners,
I’m here to serve and help get the community back on its feet. There is a healing process that needs to take place, and that starts with us as a company. Here are just a few of the things we need to address moving forward:
1. HQ needs to change — internally and externally — the way we treat each other.
2. Executive leadership needs to earn the trust of employees and the community.
3. Affiliates and staff must be respected and heard. I know some of you have reservations, deservedly so, about CrossFit’s commitment to making real changes. I, and the rest of the team here at CrossFit HQ, will need to earn that trust by listening and taking action. In the past, we’ve fallen short with our communication, both in what we say and how we say it. Moving forward, we will roll out a series of substantial changes with a particular focus on enhancing the way CrossFit communicates with the affiliate community, starting with a weekly email centered on the needs and voices of the affiliates.
From the beginning, CrossFit has been about inclusivity and serving communities in need. We all know that and many of you have participated in such initiatives as CrossFit for Hope, Hope for Kenya, Steve’s Club, and Saved by the Barbell, to name a few. We will continue efforts such as these and make meaningful commitments to supporting grassroots initiatives that allow affiliates to effect positive change at the local level. We will work to make these efforts visible inside and outside the CrossFIt community. I’m here to listen to the community, and I’m committed to helping heal what’s been broken and making all feel welcome.
We will recover from this. CrossFit affiliates will continue to be the advocates of fitness and health, and to serve as an unwavering source of support for their communities.
Thank you for your patience. We want to take the time to get this right as we move forward together.
Sincerely,
Dave Castro
Dave Castro was named CEO of CrossFit, Inc. on June 9, 2020. Dave is the longest-tenured employee in the company. He was instrumental in the development of the CrossFit Training Department and CrossFit Games, co-directing training for 14 years and directing the Games since their inception in 2007. Prior to joining CrossFit, he served in the U.S. Navy for 12 years and has been doing CrossFit for 15, using the methodology while he was deployed.
So, that’s what’s up there. For some this will represent a step a in the right direction. Let’s see how this plays out.
For Saturday, though let’s head to the track.
